Things to Do in Deraniyagala

Nakkawita Sangili Paalama

The Sangili or suspension bridge across the Sitawaka River at Nakkawita, in the foothills of Sri Lanka’s Central Highlands is a popular route for pilgrims walking from Deraniyagala to Adam’s Peak, where they will scale the mountain to revere what is said to be the footprint of the Buddha. Shot on assignment for Serendib magazine. My photo story on the Noori area, Fiery Green Mountains & Shining Waters,

BBQ Night with a Bonfire

The fire came to light up the night, to warm air that was more accustomed to the winter chill. It lit each face and they felt the heat go to their core. Then, as the night became day, as the stars blended into the blue, they could choose to recall the warmth or only see cold ashes. Enjoy the BBQ with the Bonfire singing a local song with a box guitar with a small dance around the fire.

Hidden Beauty of 7 Waterfalls : Eli Hatha

Situated in the Adams Peak Forest (Sri Padaya), Eli hatha or the seven waterfalls is another wonderful creation of nature which is not very popular among the normal travelers. The water comes from the top of the mountains, passing greenish jungle, making 7 waterfalls (Eli Hatha). While visiting Eli hatha you would see more than fifteen amazing big and small waterfalls in one place like nowhere in Sri Lanka. The surrounding is filled with the untouched forest, but from the rare animals and plant species.
